The Best Creatine in Canada: A Critical Guide
Background
Creatine monohydrate is the most researched and scientifically validated form of creatine, with well-established benefits for both physical and cognitive performance. This is why no other forms of creatine are included in this article—alternative forms are simply more expensive and are less scientifically validated. If you are interested in learning more about how creatine works and the science behind it's physiological and cognitive benefits, check out my full guide to creatine here.
All of the brands in this comparison contain 100% creatine monohydrate with no additional ingredients. I bought and tested every brand in this analysis, and reached out to every company to request testing and material origin information to write this guide.
Because creatine is a single-ingredient supplement, the categories used to determine the best creatine in Canada focus on factors that actually differ between brands.
Each category contributes to the overall score. The categories score contribution is weighted because some factors are inevitably more important than others when choosing a creatine supplement. For example, texture and taste are very similar across all brands and are often barely noticeable, so each is weighted at just 10%. In contrast, third-party testing verifies ingredient identity, quality, purity, and safety, making it far more important—so it receives a 30% weighting.
Country of manufacture (0%)
This has no influence on the overall score. It’s included simply because many consumers prefer to know whether a brand is Canadian-based.
Note that this refers to where each brand is based, not where the raw material is produced (more on raw material origin in the brand transparency section).
Third-party testing (30%)
Although creatine is a single-ingredient product, quality can vary between manufacturers, which makes independent verification important. This is the most heavily weighted category for several reasons. It determines product purity, safety, and overall quality. A full, rigorous third-party testing protocol verifies that what’s on the label matches what’s in the tub. It’s also relatively inexpensive to perform on each batch, so it can be a red flag when a company chooses not to do it. Additionally, some brands claim to test but do not disclose their results, which further reduces transparency.
- 10 Points for a full Third Party testing which is available to view
- 6 Points for Third Party testing, but is not full panel testing
- 5 Points for Third Party testing, but the company has not shared them upon request
- 3 Points for banned substance testing only
- 0 Points for no external testing
At the time of publishing this blog, I have not had a response from Revolution Nutrition or Jacked Factory regarding their testing results, if they do send them, I will update the blog and score accordingly.
Our third-party testing results for our creatine monohydrate are available here. Every batch is verified for identity, purity, and safety, including screening for heavy metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, mercury), moisture content, and unwanted compounds. The results show extremely high purity (over 99.9% pure), with all trace materials combined totalling less than 0.01%.
Note that banned-substance testing is only awarded 3 points because it is not particularly meaningful. Although it looks impressive on a label, it has little practical relevance—anabolic steroids and similar banned compounds do not make their way into supplements. These certifications function mostly as marketing badges. What truly matters is full third-party testing that verifies real aspects of product safety and quality, such as heavy metals, microbial contamination, and ingredient purity.
Texture (10%)
To assess texture, we mixed 5 g of creatine with 200 ml of water and evaluated the mouthfeel and graininess. Visually, all eight brands appeared virtually identical in terms of mesh size (i.e., granule size). However, they did behave differently once mixed with water.
Solubility (15%)
To assess solubility, we mixed 5 g of creatine with 200 ml of water. We observed each product 10 seconds after mixing and assigned a score. We also observed again at the 2-minute mark to evaluate how well it dissolved and stayed suspended over time. Detailed images of the products solubility are available in the Appendix.
Taste (10%)
To assess solubility, we mixed 5 g of creatine with 200 ml of water and evaluated both taste and aftertaste.
Cost (20%)
Because each brand packages its creatine in different container sizes, I’ve normalised the cost to a price per 500 g to allow for a clear side-by-side comparison - this is the larger number on the graph. The actual cost per unit is at the bottom
Ingredient Origin Disclosure (15%)
I reached out to every brand to ask where their creatine raw material is sourced. The message I sent, and the companies’ exact responses, are included in the Appendix ; points below are awarded based on how the companies disclose this information.
Standard creatine monohydrate is manufactured almost exclusively in China, which I already knew from researching this extensively from a manufacturing standpoint. It’s important to clarify that country of origin does not determine ingredient quality - that is established through laboratory testing and third-party verification, which is why third-party-tested brands are valued by consumers. While German-made creatine exists (Creapure or Creavitalis), independent testing shows no measurable difference in purity, safety, or performance compared to high-quality standard creatine that is properly third-party tested. For that reason, we do not consider the country of origin to be a meaningful indicator of product quality. That said, supplement companies should still disclose the origin of their raw ingredients when asked by consumers.
Overall winners
Below is the final ranking based on all criteria combined: texture, solubility, taste, transparency, testing, and cost.

🥇Thrive Creatine Monohydrate (first place, 8.2 points)
🥈Revolution Nutrition Creatine Monohydrate (second place, 7.9 points)
🥉Jacked Factory Creatine Monohydrate (third place, 7.3 points)

Ingredient Origin Disclosure
Here is the exact message I sent to each brand to ask where the actual creatine monohydrate is sourced:
“Hello, I’m reaching out to ask for the creatine’s country of origin. Not where it is packaged, but where the actual raw material is from. I don’t mind if it is sourced from China; I would simply appreciate knowing. Many thanks."
Here are the responses from each company:
Naked (5 points):
"Hi Joe, Thank you for reaching out. It is currently manufactured in Asia and packaged in the US."
I then followed up and said:
"Hi there, Thank you for your response. However, Asia is a continant - I'm wondering if you can be more specific and tell me what is the country of origin."
There was no further reply from Naked.
Canadian Protein (0 points):

Jacked Factory, 10 points
The only company who answered the question directly:
"Hello,
Thanks for reaching out and supporting JF!
Thanks for your question about creatine sourcing! Here is an overview of our creatine sourcing.
Our creatine is sourced from China. The majority of creatine production happens in China, where a few large factories dominate the global supply. These factories have the capability to produce bulk creatine at scale and typically export to supplement brands worldwide.
Country-of-origin isn’t actually a meaningful quality signal when it comes to dietary supplements or raw material procurement. Creatine’s contaminants of concern (which are DCD, DHT, creatinine, residual solvents, heavy metals) are driven by route + purification efficiency, not geography. These are unit operations variables (washing, crystallization, milling, QC hold-release) not country-specific variables. There are Chinese plants with ultra-low DCD + DHT, and there are Western plants with low-purity creatine. What actually protects the athlete is validated spec conformance: ISO-17025 methods, pharmacopoeial monographs, NSF/Informed Sport testing, and a cGMP blend/finish environment.
All of our supplements, including creatine, are third-party tested. Also, our creatine is informed-choice certified, so you can take it without any concerns.
If you’d like, we’re happy to share more details on our testing!"
Sports Research (0 points):

My input on this ingredient disclosure inquiry.
In the supplement industry, transparency is a key component of trust. There is nothing wrong with disclosing where an ingredient is sourced, and consumers have a right to know what they are putting into their bodies. When a company declines to answer—or gives an evasive response such as saying that disclosure would “affect the supply chain”—it isn’t accurate and makes it harder to assess a brand’s openness. At the same time, it’s important to acknowledge the nuance: consumers often overreact when they hear an ingredient is sourced from China, even though this has no inherent impact on quality. For many raw materials, sourcing from China is necessary to produce a compliant, and affordable product. Because of this stigma, it’s understandable that some brands are hesitant to give a direct answer, even if the ingredient itself is high quality. Jacked Factory handles this particularly well, providing clear and direct information about ingredient origin. Their approach sets a useful benchmark for transparency that other companies could follow.
Third Party Testing Disclosure
Here is the exact message I sent to each that had third party testing to ask if I could see the Third Party Testing results:
"Hello, can I please see the third party testing results for the latest batch of creatine monohydrate. Many thanks"
Jacked Factory (5 points)
They have said they do share them, but I have not recieved them.
Naked (6 points)
Replied and provided the results, however, the Third party testing panel is limited to only heavy metals, and not mould, impurities, or product purity.
Revolution Nutrition (5 points)
Did not reply to disclose the results
Sports research (5 points)
Would no disclose the results, and sent this message:
Hello,
Thank you for reaching out and for your interest in the transparency of our products.
As part of an ongoing redesign and upgrade of our website, the "Track Your Lot" feature is no longer available, if you were previously familiar with that offered option. We understand this may be disappointing and truly appreciate your patience as we work to improve your experience. We’re actively evaluating new ways to enhance our transparency tools and may reintroduce a similar feature in the future as part of these digital improvements. Rest assured, all of our supplements are third party tested for heavy metals in compliance with US regulations, for label claim compliance, as well as for microbial contaminants.
Thank you again for your continued support and for being a valued part of the Sports Research community.
Warm regards
My input on this inquiry.
There is little reason for a company to withhold third-party test results if the product meets expected quality standards. Sharing these results builds trust, strengthens credibility, and helps consumers feel confident in their purchase. When a brand chooses not to provide them, it becomes harder to objectively assess product quality or maintain an open, transparent relationship with the brand.
